"Building the Civic 'Net" Congratulates its First Class of Grantees

Monday, May 4th, 2009.

Building the Civic 'Net director Scott Aikens stands with the program's first four grant recipients; (from left) Clarinda Harrison with the City of Rochester Hills; Laura Amatulli with the Meadow Brook / Oakland University Summer Writing Project; Jacob Lumetta with Detroit Startups; and Randy Speck with MySamson (Science Arts and Math, Social Online Network).

Building the Civic 'Net is a philanthropic initiative supported by the Village Square blog, a news and information resource sponsored by the Village of Rochester Hills.

The program's vision is to help spur in Northern Oakland County a variety of new local online information resources developed by area civic, cultural and educational institutions, as well as by individuals. With the closing of the Rochester Observer and Eccentric fast approaching, we believe it is more important than ever that communities use new tools to inform themselves and one another in new ways. We hope that the grant recipients will use their prizes to help us all make this happen.

Congratulations to the Recipients!

Stay tuned for more details in the weeks ahead ...
